Annual Bring a Book, Buy a Book campaign goes virtual for 2021, entering a ‘New Chapter’

4th March 2021:  To celebrate National Book Day, St Michael’s House has launched a ‘New Chapter’ of its ‘Annual Bring a Book, Buy a Book’ campaign. This year marks the 14th year of the annual campaign and the charity is encouraging people to take part virtually and #PassTheBook online.

The campaign will run beyond World Book Day to the end of March and St. Michael’s House are encouraging family, friends and colleagues to come together to escape through reading during these difficult times. To take part, simply organise an online coffee morning on Zoom to share your favourite lockdown reads with your group and take recommendations from others to build a new personal reading list.

Participants can also #PassTheBook by sending a surprise book to a group member by post to enjoy and encouraging friends and family to do the same. Share your virtual event using the hashtag #PassTheBook and support the ‘Bring a Book Buy a Book – the Next Chapter’ by donating to support services for people with disabilities.
Since 2008, the ‘Bring a Book, Buy a Book’ campaign has raised over €400,000 to support disability services and over 100,000 pre-loved books have found new homes through pop-up events nationwide.

Commenting on the campaign, Jacqui McDonnell, Fundraising Executive at St. Michael’s House said:

“We are delighted to announce the launch of our annual national Bring a Book Buy a Book campaign. This year we are encouraging people to take a break from their daily schedule and #PassTheBook online with friends and family Now more than ever, we need some escapism and reading is the great outlet for children and adults alike during this lockdown period. Since the onset of the pandemic, we have adapted our fundraising events to take place virtually. We hope that supporters can get involved in our campaign this month and donate what they can to support St. Michael’s House services.”
