St. Michael's House Special National Schools - Seeking Board Chairpersons

Issued 24 March 2022

SNS Board of Management

St. Michael's House Group are seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals for roles as Voluntary Chairpersons to the Board of Management in four of their Special National Schools located in the greater Dublin area. The organisation is multi-denominational and this is reflected in the ethos of our schools.

The Governance structures for special national schools are, as for all National Schools, set out in the Department of Education and Skills Governance Manual for Primary Schools 2019-2023. The Board of Management manages the school on behalf of the Patron, is the employer of all school staff, and has overall responsibility for all School Policies. Each Board has eight members representing the Patron, Teachers, Parents and Community. The Chairperson in collaboration with the Principal provides the oversight and direction to the School and chairs the regular Board of Management meetings.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have;

  • excellent communication and collaborative skills,
  • will build strong relationships and
  • be an effective leader who will develop and support teams to achieve the long-term objectives of the school.

Previous experience of Primary School Boards of Management and/or the Education Sector would be helpful. General management/HR experience or legal expertise would be an advantage. St. Michael's House offers support and training to successful candidates.

This is a great opportunity to 'make a difference' in supporting the achievement of good educational and development outcomes for children with disabilities.
