St Michael’s House is delighted to congratulate six students who have recently completed their 36-week paid internship as part of the DCU BSc Nursing (Intellectual Disability) programme.

The six interns have been part of the St Michael’s House nursing community since 2022. Over the past four years, they have completed 81 weeks of practice placements across St Michael’s House and our affiliated practice placement areas, gaining valuable experience and developing their skills as future Registered Nurses in Intellectual Disability (RNIDs).

We are particularly delighted that all six have now qualified as RNIDs and have accepted Staff Nurse positions with St Michael’s House. They will join our nursing teams in the coming weeks.

Their journey highlights the value of investing in education, professional development and opportunities for people to build their careers within St Michael’s House. It also reflects the strong links between education and practice, helping to support the development of skilled nurses for the future.

We would like to thank Dublin City Universityfor its ongoing partnership and support, as well as our Nursing teams, preceptors, PICs and colleagues across our services. A special thank you goes to the people we support, who play an important role in students’ learning and development through their day-to-day interactions and experiences.

The commitment, knowledge and expertise shared by our staff help create meaningful learning opportunities for students and contribute to the continued development of nursing practice within intellectual disability services.

As part of their transition into their professional roles, the six new RNIDs also completed in-house preceptorship training to support their future role in supporting student nurses.

We are delighted that all six have chosen to continue their careers with St Michael’s House and look forward to seeing their contribution to our services in the years ahead.

Congratulations to our six new RNIDs, and best wishes as they begin the next chapter of their careers with St Michael’s House.
