With warm weather continuing across the country, St. Michael's House is reminding everyone to take extra care to protect their health and wellbeing during periods of high temperatures.
Whether you are supporting service users, spending time outdoors, or travelling between services, a few simple steps can help keep everyone safe and comfortable.
Sun & Heat Safety Tips
Please remember to:
- Drink plenty of water and encourage service users to stay hydrated throughout the day.
- Take regular breaks and avoid unnecessary time in direct sunlight, especially during the warmest hours.
- Use sun protection, including sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and lightweight clothing when outdoors.
- Be aware of warmer environments, including vehicles, outdoor spaces, and areas with limited shade. Never leave anyone unattended in a parked vehicle.
- Check in on people who may be more vulnerable to the effects of hot weather, including older adults and people with complex health needs.
Be Prepared for Changing Weather
Hot weather can also bring sudden thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. If you are travelling or supporting people in the community, please take extra care and allow additional time for journeys if weather conditions change.
