The Interdisciplinary Sleep Clinic Team at St. Michael’s House recently shared their innovative work at the European Academy of Childhood Disability (EACD) Conference 2026, presenting their clinical study on the development of a specialist sleep pathway for children and young people with neurodisability and complex sleep problems.

The poster presentation, titled “Establishment of an Interdisciplinary Sleep Pathway for Children with Neurodisability and Complex Sleep Problems,” was presented by team members Dr Zareen, Denise Brady and Sinéad Travers.

The study outlines the development of the Interdisciplinary Sleep Clinic initiative, an innovative service model designed to address the significant challenges faced by children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions, including Autism, who experience complex sleep difficulties.

Sleep difficulties can have a significant impact on children, families and daily life. The Interdisciplinary Sleep Clinic brings together expertise from across disciplines to provide a coordinated, evidence-informed and person-centred approach, supporting families and helping to improve outcomes for the children and young people St. Michael’s House supports.

The team’s work has previously been recognised at national level. In 2025, the Interdisciplinary Sleep Clinic initiative received the Irish Healthcare Award in the Disability Category, recognising the innovative approach and positive impact of the service.

Speaking about the achievement, the team highlighted the importance of collaboration across disciplines and the value of developing services that respond to the individual needs of children and families.

The presentation at EACD 2026 represents an important opportunity to share learning, promote best practice and contribute to the wider disability sector.

The work of the Interdisciplinary Sleep Clinic reflects St. Michael’s House’s ongoing commitment to innovation, quality improvement and the development of services that support people to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives.

Congratulations to Dr Zareen, Denise, Sinéad and the wider team on this excellent achievement.
