Last week at Artane Hub, members of the Garda Community Policing Unit in Coolock delivered an engaging and informative safety talk to participants from the St. Michael’s House Horizons programme and Community Support services.
The event was attended by over 20 adults from both programmes and focused on personal safety at home, on the street, and while using public transport. Participants also learned about how and when to contact emergency services by calling 999 in an emergency situation.
The session provided a valuable opportunity for participants to meet and engage directly with members of the local Gardaí in an open and supportive environment. The talk encouraged discussion and interaction throughout, with participants asking questions and sharing their knowledge and experiences around staying safe in different situations.
The event complemented the existing Street Wise Training delivered through the Horizons programme and linked closely with the programme’s wider focus on supporting independent living, confidence building and everyday life skills.
The Horizons programme supports people to develop practical daily living skills through person-centred learning opportunities, including the use of the fully equipped Horizons training apartment.
St. Michael’s House would like to sincerely thank Garda Brodigan, Garda Murphy and Garda Judge from the Garda Community Policing Unit in Coolock for their time, support and continued engagement with our services and local community.
