Members of Santry Hall Training Centre recently had the exciting opportunity to visit Dáil Éireann, Ireland’s national parliament, in a visit organised with the support of Dessie Ellis TD. The visit offered adults from Santry Hall a unique insight into how national decisions are made and how democracy operates in practice.
During the day, participants engaged with the parliamentary environment, learning about debates, committees and the legislative process. Staff noted how the visit encouraged questions, discussion and reflection, helping participants understand their rights and the importance of having a voice in society.
Opportunities like this are an important part of St. Michael’s House’s person-centred and rights-based approach, empowering the people we support to be active, informed citizens. The visit aligns closely with Dignity Action Month, reinforcing our commitment to participation, inclusion and respect for individual rights.
Participants left the Dáil inspired about the experience, sharing how much they enjoyed seeing the political process in action and learning about the roles of elected representatives. Activities like this highlight how education, engagement and lived experience come together to promote confidence, independence and understanding among the people we support.
St. Michael’s House is proud to facilitate experiences that not only educate but also champion dignity, inclusion and empowerment for all the people we suppor.
