At St. Michael’s House, we are committed to building a rights-based service where people with disabilities have the tools, skills and confidence to fully participate in all aspects of life.
The latest initiative from our SMH CREATE Project exemplifies this commitment.
The project focuses on the HSE Health Passport, a crucial tool that helps individuals manage their health information. To ensure participants can access and benefit from this resource, the project combines digital skills training with hands-on, creative engagement.
What makes this initiative special is that the video was entirely created, narrated and performed by 26 adults from St. Michael’s House, alongside staff members. This collaborative process highlights our focus on the active participation of service users, families and supporters, giving participants an authentic voice in sharing their experiences and skills.
The SMH CREATE Project has been supported by the SMH CREATE Project Team, SMH Activity Hub, Ballymun ETB, and An Cosán Adult Learning Centre, Tallaght. Every adult involved in the project was paid for their contribution, reflecting our commitment to valuing and recognising their work.
Beyond the immediate benefits for participants, the project also demonstrates how St. Michael’s House continues to learn from and influence the sector, government, and society. By combining creativity, digital learning and health empowerment, this initiative highlights the real-world impact of inclusive, person-centred approaches.
Through projects like this, St. Michael’s House shows how digital inclusion, creativity and rights-based practice can come together to empower individuals and make a difference both within our services and in the wider community.
