St. Michael’s House, as a proud Patron Body, is delighted to announce the official turning of the sod for a new 16-classroom Special National School at Blacklands, Skerries, Co. Dublin, a transformative development for the St Michael’s House Skerries school community and a milestone in the advancement of special education in Ireland.
This purpose-built facility will significantly increase student capacity, potentially accommodating an additional 60 children. Designed with the diverse complex needs of students in mind, the new school will include:
- Specialist Classrooms
- Home Economics and Daily Living Skills Room
- Art Room
- General Purpose Hall
- Multi-Sensory Rooms
- Therapy and Clinician Spaces
This state-of-the-art school represents a major step forward in providing high-quality education for children with complex additional needs. The development is situated on a four-acre greenfield site and is supported by a €15 million investment from the Department of Education and Youth
St Michael’s House extends its thanks to Minister for Education and Youth, Helen McEntee, and Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion, Mr. Michael Moynihan, for their steadfast support and commitment. Their leadership has been instrumental in making this vision a reality.
This new school meets a growing demand for specialised school places and will foster a nurturing and enriching environment where each student is valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
We extend our congratulations to Principal Karen Deans, her dedicated team, Chairperson of the Board Cllr Tony Murphy and the Board of Management as they begin this exciting journey. This ‘Turning of the Sod’ marks the beginning of construction on a landmark project that will enhance the educational experience of all children and young people who attend and will attend St Michael’s House Special National School Skerries for generations to come.
