Templeogue Day Services | Social Farming in Co. Meath

Issued 24 June 2025

Social Farming

St. Michael’s House Templeogue Day Services have once again embraced the benefits of social farming, returning this summer to the working farm of Templeogue staff member Marc in Prosperous, Co. Meath.

The farm, which is home to sheep and horses, provides a unique and therapeutic setting for adults supported by St. Michael’s House to engage in hands-on, meaningful activities in a natural, outdoor environment. This year’s visit coincided with the lambing season, adding an extra layer of excitement and learning for all involved.

Participants, supported by staff, actively contributed to a variety of daily farming duties, including:

  • Feeding and caring for animals

  • Supporting with general farm tasks

  • Spending time in nature and open spaces

This initiative is part of St. Michael’s House’s commitment to person-centred supports, promoting physical and mental wellbeing, social inclusion, and community engagement. Social farming offers participants the chance to learn new skills, build relationships, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of nature and animals.

We extend our sincere thanks to Marc and the Templeogue Day Services staff team for continuing to provide experiences that align with the values of St. Michael’s House,  respect, inclusion, and community connection.
