Issued 1 June 2025

St. Michael’s House is proud to announce that the Edible & Accessible Postcard Garden, created by adults and staff from our Belcamp and Riverside Day Services, has been awarded a Certificate of Distinction at Bloom 2025.

This prestigious award recognises exceptional achievement, creativity, and dedication in garden design and implementation. The judging panel commended the garden for its thoughtful design, community spirit, and inclusive approach — values that lie at the heart of St. Michael’s House.

From the moment the project was selected to feature at Bloom, the atmosphere across both centres was filled with enthusiasm and purpose. Adults attending both day services played a central role throughout the journey — from selecting seeds and nurturing them in polytunnels, to planting and maintaining the vibrant, edible garden now proudly on display.

This initiative reflects a powerful collaboration between staff and service users, bringing together skills, creativity, and a shared belief in the importance of accessibility and sustainability. The garden stands as a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of every member of the team.

The Certificate of Distinction is not only a recognition of horticultural excellence, but also a celebration of inclusion, empowerment, and the joy of working together toward a shared vision.

We extend our warmest congratulations to the Belcamp and Riverside teams on this incredible achievement and encourage everyone attending Bloom 2025 to visit their inspiring garden.

A special thank you goes to Emily Moorcroft, our volunteer garden designer, whose talent and dedication were instrumental in turning their vision into reality. We also extend our deepest thanks to our volunteer coordinator RhodaJenny our wonderful art teacher in Belcampstaff teams from both Belcamp and Riverside, staff members’ families who contributed generously and SMH Technical Services, especially Tony, whose expert woodwork gave structure and character to the garden’s design.
