St Michael's House were delighted to support HSE in developing and producing important Assisted Decision-Making training videos recently.

Thank you to Mary and Tara Ghalaieny (Senior Speech & Language Therapist) who led this training video to highlight people's rights to make their own decisions.  We are very much looking forward to seeing the finished video.

Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) (Amendment) Act 2022

The Act was signed into law by the President on 30 December 2015 and fully commenced on 26 April 2023. The Act was amended by the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) (Amendment) Act 2022 which was signed by the President on 17 December 2022.

The Act is an important piece of reforming human rights law.

The Act established a modern legal framework to support decision-making by adults and maximising a their capacity to make decisions. This Act applies to everyone and is relevant to all health and social care services.

In January 2023, Liz Reynolds, CEO, and the management team of St Michael's House welcomed families, carers and stakeholders to attend an Assisted Decision Making (ADM) Information Meeting with Ms. Áine Flynn, Director of the Decision Support Service who provided familes and carers with important information on the Assisted Decision Making Act – which is commenced in May 2023 – and on the role of the Decision Support Service.
