Walk in Our Work Shoes is an initiative of St. Michael's House on Health & Social Care Professions Day (HSCP) to ask Mangement to - Walk in Our Work Shoes - and experience the role of working in Health Care frontline services.

The shadowing sessions took place on the run up to  March 4th, HSCP Day and the findings were presented back to staff in St. Michael's House three Head Quarters.

There was a  Healthcare Quiz on the day for audiences and a HSCP day Cup presented.

Below is a flavour of the shadowing  experience:

Director of Clinical Services, Riana Clune shadowed Roisin , Social Care leader on work on Person Centred Planning with Adults in Grangemore Rise.

IMG_0107.JPGAs part of HSCP day I undertook to Walk in our work Shoes of A Social Care Leader, Roisin O' Neill. Roisin does training with staff on PCP and I observed a session she was doing with the staff in Grangemore Rise siad Riana.
Not only did I get to see and understand more of Roisin's role but I got an insight into the role of the PIC and staff in residential. I do feel I have a better understanding of the challenges that staff face in trying to ascertain and meet the needs of all the service users in their house. I was particularly impressed with the manner in which Roisin discussed and prompted staff to come up with some inventive suggestions around creating a 'My Life' book for each service user in a format that would be relevant to them  Riana Clune MISCP MPH, Director of Clinical Services

Riana further commented - I would like to express my appreciation to Roisin and the staff in Grangemore Rise for allowing me to be there.

Director of Adult Services Michael Farrell shadowed Hannah, Physiotherapist working with a Hannah who uses our services.

0e5c6179-e437-4f4a-b2a7-bb96d24ef49cI was delighted to participate in the Walk in our work Shoes initiative.  There is not a day goes by that we don’t depend on a member of the clinical team and I think it is really important to say that. This fantastic initiative has given me the opportunity to take time away from my management role, to meet Alison and walk the work shoes of Hannah, Physiotherapist -  We often know what people do, but do we really? - to  see the realities, opportunities and the benefits for the people we support.
The smile on Alison's face for me says it all,  I am empowered to be independent in getting around. That is making a difference. Michael Farrell, Director of Adult Services5430906b-057a-4fb1-96de-4b0409e79266

Director of HR Graham Fagan shadowed the work of Olwen , Speech and Language Therapist on her Easy to Read consultation work with a group of Adults who use our services based in Castle.

DSCF4104.JPGI gained a real appreciation of the amount of preparation which Olwen and sasha undertook to ensure the meeting went well and was a positive experience for the service users involved.I gained a greater appreciation for the work which clinicians do to ensure the person centeredness of their approach in supporting Service Users, Graham Fagan,  Director of HR
