To mark International Day of Older Persons 2026, St. Michael’s House is delighted to highlight our Older Friends Social Group, which brings adults aged 50 and over who attend our services together to socialise, stay active and build connections.

The group was established to create inclusive social activities that reflect the interests and needs of older adults in St. Michael’s House. It provides opportunities to connect with old friends, meet new people and enjoy activities together.

Led by the people who attend

The Older Friends Social Group is led by the people who attend its events. The committee includes people supported by St. Michael’s House, management and frontline staff.  The people who attend the events help to choose the activities for the year, making sure the programme reflects what they want to do and enjoy.

The group held its first event, a St. Patrick’s Day celebration, in March 2025. Since then, it has continued to grow, with a range of social events taking place throughout 2026.

These have included

  • Afternoon Tea
  • Summer Party
  • Bingo Loco
  • Halloween Cinema
  • Christmas Lunch
  • And many more social activities throughout the year

The group aims to support older adults to remain active, socially connected and engaged in their communities, while creating opportunities to maintain existing friendships and develop new ones.
