This week, St. Michael’s House is proud to celebrate National Volunteering Week 2026, which this year carries the theme “From Every Corner, For Every Cause.” The campaign recognises the many different forms of volunteering that make a positive impact in communities across Ireland every day.

At St. Michael’s House, we are fortunate to have a dedicated community of volunteers who generously give their time, energy, skills and compassion to support people across our services. Their contribution plays an important role in promoting inclusion, connection, independence and opportunities for the people we support to live the lives of their choosing.

To mark National Volunteering Week, we are delighted to highlight the experience of Rob Thompson-Hunter, a valued volunteer with the SMH Befriending Volunteer Programme. Rob chose to become involved in volunteering to support and advocate for others and has since developed meaningful relationships with the people he volunteers alongside within St. Michael’s House.

Through the Befriending Volunteer Programme, volunteers provide companionship, social connection and support that can make a lasting and positive difference in people’s lives. Rob’s story reflects the impact volunteering can have, not only for the people supported by the service, but also for volunteers themselves and the wider community.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our volunteers for their ongoing commitment, kindness and support. Your contribution is deeply valued and appreciated across St. Michael’s House.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with St. Michael’s House and supporting people with disabilities in your community, we would love to hear from you.
