Referring Your Child to the Children's Disability Network Team (CDNT)

Referrals to St. Michael’s House CDNT are processed through the Central Referral Office in Dublin North City and County. All referrals for CDNT and Primary Care Services in this area go through this office.

To refer your child, complete the Children’s Services Referral Form and include the Additional Referral Form for your child’s age range (linked at the end of the form). The Central Referral Office records and forwards referrals to the services you have ticked.  Please email it to cro.dncc@hse.ie or post to Central Referrals Office.

Referrals sent directly to CDNT will be responded to with a request to send via the Central Referral Office for processing.

What Happens After You Make a Referral?

Once received, the CDNT reviews the referral and determines the next steps:

  1. CDNT is appropriate – Your child is added to the waiting list.
  2. More information needed – CDNT may request additional details or invite you and your child for a meeting.
  3. CDNT is not appropriate – The referral may be transferred to Primary Care Services or Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
  4. Joint approach needed – CDNT may collaborate with another agency, such as CAMHS.

The goal is to ensure your child accesses the most suitable service for their needs.

How Long Does the Process Take?

Processing typically takes 8-12 weeks, though it may take longer if coordination with other services is required. You will be informed of any delays.

How Is the Decision Made?

Decisions follow the National Access Policy on Services for Children and Young People with Disability and Developmental Delay:

  • CDNT supports children with complex needs requiring interdisciplinary intervention due to a disability or suspected disability.
  • Primary Care Services are for children with non-complex needs who may benefit from single-discipline or multidisciplinary support.
  • CAMHS serves children with moderate to severe mental health difficulties

Services have changed significantly over the past number of years and these services are working collaboratively in Dublin North City and County to ensure children are accessing the most appropriate service for them based on their current needs.
