Carers Week 2020 -  Message from Liz Reynolds, CEO

LIZ REYNOLDS CEOThis is a Virtual Carers Week 2020 but it is not virtual care for those at home. During #CarersWeek2020 we want to sincerely thank carers for the range of supports and care that they provide for their loved ones all year around.

Our teams have provided all online virtual Carers week programmes and supports this week, and  indeed other weeks since March. We know it is not nearly enough, and that the last several months have been extremely challenging but we are actively working towards an increase in individualised practical supports, and we are committed to a safe return of services.

It is an unprecedented time in Ireland and we  hugely acknowledge all the work of Carers that use our service and indeed  the 361,000 Carers nationwide. We will continue to work and support all Care advocate agencies. Thank you to Care Alliance and all our Carers week partners this year.

Activity Hub

Carers week is a great national acknowledgement of Carers in Ireland. Our families and service users are not completing theirSarah Hewitt normal Carers week events this year so this year it is all online.

We have invited service users and carers to take part in a range of online events through our Activity Hub on www.smh.ie this Carers week.  These included ; Best Friends online catch ups, Family Bingo, Tai Chi, cooking and mindfulness classes to name a few. We were delighted to see so many new faces online and for everyone to have to opportunity to connect with each other.

There is a great line up this Friday, with a Quiz to start the day and an exciting live music session with one of our regular musicians, Gerry Long at 7pm.

In the past, not everyone could attend events so this might have a positive impact on many this year and we hope to continue to engage with service users and carers through many future activities.

Thank you to all the Carers for their participation on the Activity hub. #MakingCaringVisable.
