St. Michael’s House welcomed a number of students to our Special National Schools this academic year. Our wonderful photographer, Joe Carr,  captured some smiling school starters. School is an important milestone and our school teams do everything they can to make child and family members part of the school community.
As is the case,  we also said farewell to students finishing their schooling and moving on to adult services

There are a range of services provided and the type of service that is chosen is based on the individual skills and needs of each student .St. Michael’s House has a School Leaver Planning Group which is responsible for overseeing the transition from school to adult day services.

The group works closely with the Health Service Executive (HSE) who carry out an Individual Assessment of Need on each student to determine the level of funding to be provided for an adult placement .

The Group work within a very tight timeframe and endeavour to find a suitable place for everybody by September. There are many challenges such as recruitment of staff, identification of premises and provision of transport ,however, we have provided places for 145 students in the past 5 years.
