Jill Donnelly Classic 2015 - Celebrating 25 Years
St. Michael’s House, one of Ireland’s largest providers of community based services for children and adults with an intellectual disability, was today presented with €70,000 following this year’s Jill Donnely Golf Classic which was held in Milltown Golf Club, Dublin late last month. The special 25th anniversary of the successful charity fundraiser was hosted by Irish sports presenter Des Cahill, who entertained 160 dinner guests on the night.
The Jill Donnelly golf classic was started 25 years ago in memory of Conor and Gabrielle Donnelly’s daughter Jill, who was in Saint Michael’s House care. The Golf Classic is, at present, St. Michael’s House largest single annual fundraising and sports event. The fundraising committee of St. Michael’s House has raised over €1.2 million since the event began in 1991.
This year the Jill Donnelly Golf event was successfully sold out, with 256 golfers teeing off on the day. During the seven months of planning and preparation that anticipated the event, the committee was in charge of submitting teams, raising tee and green sponsorship, organising prizes and ensuring that the event was a success.
Colin Gordon , Chairman of the Golf Committee said “We thoroughly enjoy the organising of this event for St. Michael’s House. The committee have fun and work really hard to make this day a success”.
Barbara Wiseman, Head of Fundraising at St. Michael’s House said “The demand for our services has continued to grow and we continue to have significant requirements in our Transport Department. We are so grateful to the committee for their dedication and hard work year after year, which has enabled us to purchase and run 23 wheelchair buses since the fundraiser began.”
The €70,000 raised this year will facilitate the purchase of a wheelchair accessible bus for the Donabate Respite Service that supports children and adults within the region.
