The Department of Education and Skills have approved the transfer of St. Michael’s House Special National School Grosvenor Road to a new location in Oak Hill Leopardstown. The new premises was built approximately 10 years ago as a primary school and is well suited to the needs of pupils at Grosvenor Road and Ballinteer.

The current school at Grosvenor Road comprises of two Georgian houses and despite considerable renovations are unsuitable as a modern school building. In addition to the daily challenges faced by pupils and teachers the buildings are not accessible to pupils with mobility difficulties and as a result of this the school is currently divided into two locations – Grosvenor Road and Ballinteer. With some minor renovations the new school can be made fully wheelchair accessible and will be able to accommodate all pupils. It is planned that all pupils will transfer to Oak Hill in the next school term. The classrooms currently used by pupils at Ballinteer will revert back to Our Lady’s National School.

The new school is leased by the Department of Education and Skills and will provide Grosvenor Road SNS with a permanent location until the Department gives approval for a new school to be built on St. Michael’s House site at Ballinteer. The campaign to secure a new school for Grosvenor Road has been in place for over 20 years. On behalf of the pupils, staff, parents and Board of Management we would like to thank all those who supported them over the years and Our Lady’s National School for making them feel so welcome.
